DEFINITION(S)
- generalisation of the notion of set, introduced in 1965 by Lotfi Zadeh, according to which elements can have an intermediate degree of belonging between complete belonging and non-belonging. Fuzzy sets are useful for representing properties or categories with ill-defined contours, even in a given context ("tall" or "young", for example), or clusters with ill-contrasting contours.
